The Rydell Family and Gandrud Automotive Group in Green Bay, WI

The Gandrud Auto Group was founded and is currently part of the Rydell Group.

Leonard Rydell bought and sold scrap iron during World War II.  Iron was a vital commodity, and Leonard was already thinking volume.  His real dream was to own a dealership.

In 1946, after the war, when cars were again being manufactured, he purchased the original Rydell Chevrolet Company in Montgomery, Minnesota.

Mr. Rydell moved to Grand Forks and took over the Chevrolet franchise there in 1954.  He quickly obtained market leadership and Rydell’s has been a high volume dealership ever since.

Mr. Rydell believed strongly in selling more vehicles for less profit and consequently became known as the “Little Profit Dealer”.  This proved to be successful with customers and employees, as well as the dealership.

Wes Rydell, Leonard’s son, assumed ownership of Rydell Chevrolet in 1976; it is now the largest automobile dealership in North Dakota.  Wes Rydell has continued in the tradition of high volume and took it a step further with the “Best price” philosophy.  Rydell doesn’t want customers to pay more, he wants to have more customers.  This desire is in tune with the mission adapted by all Rydell affiliated dealership:  to exceed our customers’ and employees’ expectations and maintain their loyalty for a lifetime.

The group has grown from the one dealership in North Dakota to the largest dealer group in North America, through common philosophy, not common ownership.  The group has 61 locations, has 80,000 retail sales units per year and two billion in sales.

One goal of the group is to help others achieve their dreams of becoming an automobile dealer.  Salespeople, technicians, finance managers, and parts people have moved up in the ranks, and are now owners of their own dealerships.
